luke’s lights

“Dream Big, Do Bigger” he told us, hand-lettered on the first page of the travel journal he was keeping when we lost our 19-year-old son and brother to a climbing accident. This is our way of spreading our love for Luke—and his spark—around the world.

We partnered with Unite to Light, developed a strong waterproof solar lamp, lovingly created a logo, designed the brown kraft box and the all-together-holding-up-the-sky illustration, designed a website, held our breath and broken hearts and … launched full-force to conquer darkness.

168,169 luke lights distributed in 78 countries

Making the light

We needed to design a durable, low-cost, portable solar light that could function as a task light and hang overhead for room lighting—and be left out in the rain. Never ones to shy away from a challenge (or hundreds of emails back and forth to Hong Kong), we now have a 20-lumen bright light that brings 8 hours of night light and is waterproof to IP65.

Travel with luke lights

Friends of Luke, and folks who never knew him, have traversed the globe with checked luggage full of little solar lights. Giving away Luke Lights to people in need of power—in Haitian orphanages, Panamanian rural clinics, Amazonian fishing villages, Filipino surfing communities, Syrian refugee camps, and Puerto Rican towns post-hurricane—has enhanced service trips, foreign exchange programs and even vacations.
